Intellectual Property Law & Trademark Protection
Perlman & Perlman advises and assists clients in protecting valuable intellectual property—such as the organization’s name, logo, tagline, and programs—against unauthorized use. Organizations that register are better able to protect their intellectual property and their right to exclusive use of the mark.
We advise our nonprofit clients how intellectual property law can work for their benefit in ways they hadn’t considered. For example, one nonprofit client had registered its organization’s name as a trademark. When the client’s founder unexpectedly died and the charity was forced to dissolve, the nonprofit sold its name to another organization and used the money to pay off its debts. It also was able to use the proceeds from the sale of the name to continue funding its projects for a while longer.
With an expertise in intellectual property law, Perlman & Perlman helps clients protect their organization and program name, logo, and other trademarks by registering their trademarks with the required state, federal or international authorities, negotiating license agreements, and advising them on how best to protect their trademark rights.
Likewise, we provide counseling with respect to copyrights; helping our clients protect original writings, designs, software, or other creative works and control how these works can be used. We assist with federal copyright registration; draft and negotiate licensing agreements, publishing contracts, and royalty fees; and conduct ownership and infringement dispute resolution and litigation.
